From late October to Christmas, freight volumes across the Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Gympie climb sharply as retailers stock up and online orders surge. Every carrier in the country gets busier at the same time. A little planning keeps your stock arriving and your customers happy.
How we plan for peak
We plan for a lift of at least 30 to 40 percent in volume through the Christmas peak, and we scale up our fleet and team from late October. We talk to our regular customers well ahead of time about their expected volumes so the capacity is there when they need it.
Seven tips for a smooth Christmas
- Tell us your forecast early. Even a rough idea of extra volume helps us plan vehicles and staff.
- Order stock early. Bring Christmas stock up from Brisbane or interstate before the busiest weeks of December.
- Book regular pickups. A standing pickup is easier to plan than lots of one-off bookings.
- Send interstate freight early. National freight is busiest in December, and transit times stretch for every carrier.
- Package for a busy network. More freight means more handling. See how to package freight.
- Get the details right. Full addresses, phone numbers and receiving hours avoid failed deliveries, which cost more time in December than at any other time.
- Check our cut-off dates. We confirm our last pickup and delivery dates before Christmas and our close-down period each year. Call us or check with our team in November.
Weather and the wet season
Summer storms and flooding can close roads across the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Gympie and Moreton Bay. We monitor the weather closely, never put our people at risk, and keep customers informed if deliveries are affected.
