Truck & driver hire
Hire a vehicle and driver by the hour for a one-off job, or run a dedicated vehicle and driver as if they were your own, without buying a truck or employing anyone.
Ways to hire
Hourly & ad-hoc (taxi truck)
A truck and driver for a few hours or a day. For one-off moves, overflow during a busy week, a multi-stop run, a site delivery, or covering a vehicle that is off the road. Book it when you need it, and pay for the hours you use.
Permanent & dedicated
A nominated vehicle and driver working to your schedule, every day. Your run order, your sites, your customers, and the same driver who gets to know all three. The capability of your own fleet without the capital or the employment.
What is included
A working vehicle, not just a truck
- The vehicle, registered, insured and dealer-maintained
- An experienced driver, employed by us and inducted to our standards
- Fuel, servicing and compliance
- Relief cover when your regular driver is on leave
- Backup vehicles if one is off the road
- Scanning and proof of delivery where the work needs it
You get the capacity. We carry the fleet, the employment, the maintenance and the compliance that sits behind it.

Who uses it
Carriers needing local capacity, wholesalers and distributors running their own deliveries, trade and building suppliers, and businesses whose volumes have outgrown one vehicle but do not yet justify two.

Questions
Vehicle hire FAQs
What is a taxi truck?
A truck and driver hired by the hour for a single job, rather than a freight rate per item. It suits work that does not fit a standard consignment: a one-off move, a delivery with several stops, or a job where the vehicle is needed for a set period.
How is hourly hire charged?
By the hour, from the time the vehicle leaves our depot until it returns, with a minimum hire period. We confirm the rate and the minimum when you book.
Can we have the same driver and vehicle every day?
Yes. That is what permanent hire is. You get a nominated vehicle and driver working to your schedule, in your run order, who learns your customers and your sites.
Do you supply the driver, fuel and insurance?
Yes. Hire includes the vehicle, the driver, fuel, maintenance, registration and insurance. You are hiring a working vehicle, not just the truck. To be clear about what that insurance covers: it is the vehicle itself and our liability for operating it. It is not cover on your goods — we do not insure freight, and our charges do not include goods insurance. If you want your stock covered while it is on the vehicle, arrange that with your own insurer. See clause 35 of our Conditions of Carriage.
What size vehicles can we hire?
From vans through to pantech and curtainsider trucks. Tell us the work and we will tell you what suits it.
Is permanent hire cheaper than running our own vehicle?
It depends on your volumes, but you avoid buying the vehicle, employing and covering the driver, and carrying maintenance, registration, insurance and relief cover. Ask us and we will work through the comparison with you.
Need a vehicle and a driver?
Tell us the work, the hours and the area, and we will tell you what it takes and what it costs.
